Does your vehicle  need a thermostat?
The thermostat is not just for heat!   Engine
temperature is very important to the proper
operation of a vehicle, especially with
computerized engine controls? (just about
every thing built after 1981 or so.)

When the thermostat sticks open, the engine
will run cool, the temperature sensor, tells the
computer and the computer thinks you are still
in warm up and puts in more fuel. In the near
future you are using a lot of fuel, this leads to
problems with O2 sensors and catalytic
converters.
